About My Interest in Psychology

The branch of study I am interested in would have to be Abnormal Psychology. I love trying to figure out what goes on in an individual's mind when they have some sort of disorder or form of eating that bothers them. I have always found it interesting about anyone in general who has gone through things that people cannot explain to someone who does not understand what they are going through unless it has happened to themselves. I also am interested in this area because I am wanting to become a nurse and knowing more about abnormal psych would benefit me in understanding why people think or act the way they do.
The topics under this branch are the following: Eating disorders, Depression, Phobias, Borderline personality disorder, Seasonal effective disorder, Schizophrenia, Antisocial personality disorder
If I did want to become an Abnormal Psychologist as my profession it would take one to two years long for a bachelor's degree just as a Clinical Social Worker. Beyond this for a Doctoral degree it would take about 5-6 years which would qualify me to be able to work as a Clinical or Forensic Psychologist. http://learningpath.org/articles/Abnormal_Psychology_Careers_Job_Description_Salary_Info.html
A couple of well known Abnormal Psychologist's are Sigmund Freud who is an Austrian philosopher and psychologist. Albert Ellis, who developed Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy (REBT) in 1955, which is still being used today. Kay Redfield Jamison who is known for her work with bipolar disorder. There are many others who are well known and appreciated for there great work that they have done. http://www.psychologydegree.com/10-most-famous-clinical-psychologists-of-all-time
Many friends that I have come to know have some sort of disorder that intrigues me to know more and understand what happens to them in a certain situation. If I am able to understand any area of psychology I feel as though it may benefit me as a nurse in the future.
